Good morning! As we approach the month of October, I wanted to alert you to 3 activities for your consideration and participation as a member of the Council.
#1. KofC/St. Michael Respect Life Diaper Drive during weekend Masses for October
Due to COVID-19, our Spring Diaper Drive was delayed. But that doesn’t mean diapers weren’t in demand by those with infants in need of them. So, we are extending the usual, “one weekend” diaper drive to all weekend Masses throughout the month of October and humbly ask all parishioners give BIG the whole month! You may drop off your donation in Marian Hall and place it on the long pew against the windows facing the parking lot before any weekend Mass during the month of October. St. Michael Knights will be collecting the diapers at the end of the 12:30 Masses each weekend. If you would like to make a monetary donation toward the purchase of diapers, please make your check out to Bill Hinger and mail it to 205 Aldrich Road, Columbus, Ohio 43214 (mark “Diaper Drive” on the envelope) and diapers will be purchased with your contribution. PLEASE NOTE: Do not drop off diapers during the weekdays due to the use of Marian Hall by the school children.
Please Note: we’ll need a total of 8 Knights (2 per Sunday) to move the donated diapers to the storage site (TBD but hopefully somewhere on the St. Michael campus) after the 12:30 Mass each Sunday. Please send me an email at: <> if you can help with moving boxes and which Sunday you can assist. We won’t be asking for any volunteers during each Mass to collect donations due to restrictions. Rather, St. Michael Respect Life will post a sign in Marian Hall directing donors to the pew by the windows facing the parking lot.
#2. 40 Days for Life
The Fall, 40 Days For Life Campaign begins this coming Wednesday, September 23rd at 7 a.m. at the abortion clinic located at 3255 E. Main Street, Columbus, Ohio. The Campaign runs through November 1st. For this campaign, let’s try something different. Instead of trying to pick a day with a block of time, Knights are asked to sign up, with at least one buddy, for an hour of prayer between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily any day during the Campaign. If there are more than two who would like to team up for an hour, that would be fine. Our Campaign Coordinator has impressed upon me the need for pray-ers to go in pairs at the very least.
You have two options for signing up. Either contact Diane Vincent directly (740-972-3242) with your pair, or team members with the date/hour you would like to cover, or you can click on the link site (www.40daysforlife.com/local-campaigns/columbus/) and sign up directly with your team.
When attending, please keep the following items in mind:
* Please confine yourselves to the public right-of-way (i.e. sidewalk and easement grass)
* Please note that the fence is not the private property line; you should stay off the grass between the sidewalk and the fence. You must be on the sidewalk or on the easement grass (the area where the sidewalk would be and the tree lawn between the sidewalk and the street).
* The days that are filled up so far are: September 24, October 3, October 10, October 17, October 1, October 9, October 25th, and November 1st
#3. Men’s Ignatian Silent Retreat – October 23 – 25, 2020
The Milford Spiritual Center offers silent Ignatian retreats modeled on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. During this weekend retreat, an experienced retreat director will provide a series of presentations on the Spiritual Exercises, provide reflections on Scripture and offer other methods of how to grow closer to our loving God. The retreat includes daily Mass, Reconciliation, Adoration, Stations of the Cross, Rosary, Healing Service, Spiritual Direction and time for private reflection. Embrace the silence and come to know the abundance of God’s love and mercy. This retreat is not about doing more, but about being more – the Magis. Visit jesuitspiritualcenter.com/retreats/ignatian-retreats/ for more information and to register or call Bill Hinger at 614-593-1073 or email me at <> for more details.
