Be Still

Cell phone. Computer. Laptop and iPad. Email and text message and Facebook. Twitter and Instagram. Snapchat. Youtube. ABC. CBS. NBC and Fox and CNN. CNBC. Fox News. Talk radio. Catholic radio. Music radio. Playlists. Status updates. Tweets. Live streams.

Shhhh. Be still and know that I am the Lord.

Football. Hockey. Baseball. Basketball. Fantasy teams. Playoff hopes. Player scandals. New Star Wars movie. Local elections. Presidential elections. Debates. The economy. ISIS. Iraq. Afghanistan. Syria. China. Muslim refugees flood Europe.

Shhhh. Be still and know that I am the Lord.

What am I going to wear today? Drop off. Pick up. Errands. Coach. Volunteer. “Daddy can you help me with my homework?” “Honey, the check engine light is on.” “Hey, stranger. It’s been a while since we got together, let’s get a beer.” “Kids, stop running in the house!” Hold on, I’ll get the bandaids.

Shhhh. Be still and know that I am the Lord.

The grass could stand to be cut. Man, that tooth is really starting to hurt. I need to call the dentist and get it looked at. I should probably go for a physical too, it’s been a while. He’ll tell me I need to lose a few pounds. Maybe I’ll have a salad for lunch. Bills are due. I should probably look at my 401k. When’s the last time I changed the furnace filter? Check engine light is still on.

Shhhh. Be still and know that I am the Lord

This traffic is horrible. I’m going to miss my 9:00 meeting. Reviews are next week. Rumors of another layoff. Boss has been avoiding me, hope that’s not a bad sign. How are we going to afford braces? I need to get to that check engine light. I’m never going to finish that report by the end of the day. Well, maybe if I skip lunch I can make it home before the kids go to bed. Oh no, the recital is tonight!

Shhhh. Be still and know that I am the Lord.

What’s wrong? What!? Don’t worry, everything will be fine. I’ll be right home. C’mon you slow drivers. But what if everything’s not fine? What then? Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

Shhhh. Be still and know that I am the Lord.

Gotta stay positive. Stay optimistic. What? We’ll worry about that later. Be strong. Be strong for everyone. What did the doctor say? Why does it take so long for the results to get back? Sure honey, I’ll read you “Green Eggs and Ham” again. Hold on, I need to get this phone call, it’s important.

Shhhh. Be still. And know that He is the Lord.
