Knights of Columbus St Michael Council #11445
August 11, 2025

REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING

Grand Knight LaMorte called regular business meeting to order at 730pm and
proceeded with opening prayer and Pledge of Allegiance.

Prior Meeting Minutes with the following corrections were approved and passed:

  • Ohio East Mission -> specified Biking for Babies
  • Change instances of Gissell -> Gissel

CHAPLAIN’S REPORT:
Not Present/No Report

REPORTS OF OFFICERS:
Grand Knight (Michael LaMorte):

  • Holy day of obligation.
  • Br Dan Meyer funeral
    • Honor guard requested, see Br Matlak and Br Gissel after meeting
  • Thank you card from Maria McCallister
  • Deputy Grand Knight still needed
  • No liquor wagon for the festival this year
    • Would like to see more people step up to take up role

Treasurer (Chris Axene):

  • Cleared balance: $68,694.80
    • (Most money is committed or earmarked)
  • Current free cash flow is unknown
  • CD came due as of the 6th of August, 10 days to cash in and put into latest CD.
  • 11 month for 3.9%, 3 month for >4%
    • New business to come regarding this

Financial Secretary’s Report (Matt Decenzo):

Membership (Brett Gissel):

  • No candidates for membership
  • With festival, great recruiting opportunity
  • Talk about what we do
  • Keep recruiting!

Program Director (Brian Elliot)

Family Director (Sean Murray)

  • Pool party fun, low attendance, try a different venue
  • Pancake breakfast made $350
    • New business to come to round up to $500
  • Freethrow contest in January

Council Director (John Greve)

Life Director (Wayne Lovely)

  • Month of August is the month of the Immaculate Heart
    • Renew relationship with Mother Mary
  • Respect life is asking for mothers facing unplanned pregnancies
  • Commit to holy hours for life
  • USCCB is partnering/sponsoring prayer campaign to end taxpayer funding of abortion
  • Respect life is sponsoring silent auction baskets
    • Amazon wishlist available, see Br Lovely for information

Community Director (Greg Kociba)

Fish Fry Committee Chairmen (Chris Fricke)

Report on the 4th Degree (Tony Matlak)

  • Couple of exemplifications in the fall, end of October (25th/26th) in Ironton
  • November will be in Granville
  • One in the spring likely in Marysville

Scholarship Committee Chairman (John Greve)

Measure Up (Greg Kociba)

Formation/Evangelization (Wayne Lovely)

  • Reiterate Faith by Fireside information
    • It’s been slightly too warm to host one this Summer, will continue when weather cools
  • Fr mentioned adoration campaign in October, commit to a holy hour
  • Goal is by October to have perpetual adoration
  • Invite a friend to adoration
  • Imagine the blessings ensuing via perpetual adoration

Chancellor’s Report on Vocations (Tom Messina)

  • Pilgrimage on Thursday evening regarding holy day of obligation, bus going to Cary OH for a Mass that counts for holy day
    • Bus coming from the parish
    • Email the pilgrimage in the bulletin for information
  • Fr Johnstone vestments information:
    • Most parishes have shared vestments
    • oftentimes they have their own purchased with their own money
    • used during daily or Sunday masses
    • thinking of St Joseph for Wednesday mass
    • price range is drastic
    • higher cost better quality
    • Talked last month about them
    • Would like to give him the Rolls Royce of vestments

  • Vestments for Fr. Johnstone, tabled until next month so we can do more
    research.

    • Fr. Johnstone will look into vestments and get back to us

 

  • Redistribute Pastor’s fund (13k)
    1. $5,750 to buy LED Bulbs (disburse this much from fund) PASSED
    2. $7,250 to the Appeal (tabled motion to September)

  • Spend up to $4000 for Fr Johnstone’s vestments
    • Pull funds from the Pastors Discretionary fund with Fr Dailey’s approval

  • Donate $200 to DANCINWITHROSELYNN RUCK AND HIKE

  • Pancake breakfast funds to be increased to $500 from $350 to go to Mission Warmth

  • Motion to re-up CD for 11 mo at 3.9%
