All Souls Day: sung Requiem Mass & plenary indulgence info

Wednesday, November 2nd, is All Souls Day. While it is not a holy day of obligation, the Institute of Christ the King will celebrate a sung Latin Requiem Mass at 6:30PM at St. Leo’s Oratory in Merion Village. The address is 221 Hanford St, Columbus, OH 43206. If you have never been to a Latin Mass, the sung Requiem Mass is an amazing experience. Contact me if you have any questions.

The chaplet for the Holy Souls and Litany for the Dead will be recited after Mass.

Also note: a plenary indulgence is granted under the normal conditions, for anyone who visits any cemetery and prays for the dead from November 1-8. One plenary indulgence is granted on each of these days, applicable to a soul in Purgatory. The conditions are:

  1. A sacramental Confession within 20 days of the cemetery visit
  2. Eucharistic communion
  3. Prayers for the Holy Father’s intentions (such as an Our Father and Hail Mary)*
  4. Perform the work (in this case, visiting a cemetery) in a spirit completely detached from any sin, mortal or venial

* The traditional 6 objective intentions of the Holy Father are:

  1. The Exaltation of the Church
  2. The Propagation of the Faith
  3. The Extirpation of Heresy
  4. The Conversion of Sinners
  5. The Concord between Christian Princes
  6. The Further Welfare of the Christian People
