All Soul’s Day reminder & 1st Tuesday devotion to the Holy Souls in Purgatory

Brother Knights,

Next Tuesday is All Soul’s Day. Please remember that during the Octave of All Saints, the faithful who visit a cemetery and pray for the dead may gain a plenary indulgence (under the usual conditions) on each day of the Octave, applicable only to the dead. In addition, between noon of November 1st and midnight November 2nd, any member of the faithful who has been to Confession and received Communion can gain a plenary indulgence for a Holy Soul in Purgatory each time he visits a church or public oratory and recites the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be six times. These devotions are great ways to pray for the release from Purgatory of deceased family members.

In addition, next Tuesday is also the 1st Tuesday of the month. For some time now, several members of our council have been observing a 1st Tuesday devotion to the Holy Souls in Purgatory by fasting, praying, and attending Mass. I’d like to encourage you to join us in this devotion next week. Here’s how:

First: Visit www.holysoulscolumbus.com for more information on the 1st Tuesday devotion. In addition to a description of the devotion, the website has links to the Chaplet for the Dead & the litany of prayers for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. You can also sign up for a monthly reminder.

Second: Set an all-day reminder on your phone for next Tuesday.

Third: Attend Mass with us at St. Leo’s Oratory at 7:00 PM. After Mass we will recite the Chaplet for the Dead and litany of prayers for the Holy Souls.
