As followers of Christ, it is common for us to spend our time learning about Christ and about God. But as members of the Church Militant, we must remember that we are engaged in daily battle against sin, against temptation, and as it says in Ephesians 6:14 “… our wrestling is not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.” Brothers, our daily battle is against Satan. So if we are to be victorious in our fight against him, it is important from time to time to not just think about our common enemy, but to try to fully understand Satan’s goals and tactics. What would you do if you were Satan? What would you do if you spent eternity standing against everything Divine? Let’s think about that for a minute.
If I were Satan, I’d take everything and flip it upside down and inside out. I’d take everything sacred and make it profane. For starters, all references to God would have to be removed from everything. After all, as Satan I find God offensive. So under the pretense of ensuring no one is offended, all those silly references to the Ten Commandments, “In God We Trust”, “Through God all things are possible”, and “One Nation under God” will just… go away. I wouldn’t let Christ remain the focus of Christmas, so I’d replace it with “holiday” or “winter”. I’d have man attribute everything that God created to just “evolution” and “nature”, and convince man than he has control over what is exclusively God’s domain. I’d convince man to worship the creation rather than the Creator.
Speaking of creation, I’d convince people that there is nothing wrong with killing the most innocent of God’s creations (and have them pay to do it). Then under the pretense of being “modern” or “compassionate” or “progressive” I would persuade people to strike down man’s laws that were enacted to protect God’s laws. I would attack the beautiful distinctions between the genders and their God-given roles and call it “equality”. And marriage… marriage has to go. I would invert things so that rather than marriage being the unbreakable frame within which couples explore love and sex, I would make love the frame — and a flexible one at that! — so everything done in the name of love is okay, like adultery. If it feels good, do it, right? I would make divorce cheap, easy, and always an option. I would alter God’s definitions of marriage and family so that they can mean anything. After all, if it means anything it means nothing!
I would learn every single person’s weaknesses, and tempt them when they are most vulnerable. I would help influential people gain an audience and spread my messages through music, movies, and TV shows that people pay to bring into their homes. I would make pornography free and prolific and entertainment with morals virtually impossible to find. I would get the children while they’re young, ensure they don’t trust or respect their parents, and groom them to breed future generations of my followers. I would ensure everyone rendered unto Caesar what is rightfully God’s, then convince them that they needed to spend every remaining cent on themselves to get the latest and greatest… whatever. I would cause God’s one true Church to become shattered into bits, so that the voices of the people arguing amongst themselves about who is right and who is wrong drown out God’s words and silence His message. I would reduce the Bible into just a collection of fables, relegated to the fiction section. And to the very few of the faithful who remain, when I was done listing all my accomplishments, I would laugh and say, “There! What are you going to do about it?”
Now that we have taken a moment to think about what Satan wants to achieve and how he goes about doing it, we know a little more about our enemy. So, brother Knights, what are we going to do about it? More importantly, what are you going to do about it?
